Rape in Cyberspace

New Media may be making our lives easier, quicker and more convenient but at what cost? The emergence of virtual worlds online has opened up debate about the regulation and policing of the internet. Julian Dibbell’s (1993) A Rape in Cyberspace is one example of the lack of regulation and its consequences.
Cyber Rape is the act of feeling uncomfortable or mentally abused in a sexual or non-sexual manner via the internet or text.

People on cyber space may attack your avatar and  make you feel uncomfortable and traumatised, when such feelings start to arise that is when you should know that it is a form of harrasment.

People may make comments such as "Nice round breasts, some sweet as melon jugs, they are revealed via a low cutshirt. Jumblies should always be pointed out to a friend when visible."

No one has the right to make you feel uncomfortable, whether online or personally. we as cyber users need to be aware of such acts and be able to protect ourselves from such as it is our right to be safe on these platforms.
